Outdoor smoking ban extended across Milan from January 1st
Milan is intensifying its commitment to environmental protection and public health by extending the smoking ban to all outdoor public areas starting January 1, 2025. This measure, outlined in Article 9 of the Air Quality Regulation adopted in 2020, aims to reduce pollution and safeguard citizens’ health.
The ban applies to all outdoor public or publicly accessible areas, including streets, except for isolated zones where maintaining a minimum distance of 10 meters from others is possible. E-cigarettes are excluded from the restriction and remain permitted.
Since 2021, smoking has been prohibited in public transport stops, parks, children’s playgrounds, cemeteries, and sports facilities. The expanded ban will now cover the entire city, marking a significant step in combating PM10, a primary contributor to air pollution.
