On December 6th, the Piazza Duomo Christmas tree lights up
On December 6th at 5:00 PM, the Christmas tree in Piazza Duomo, Milan, will be lit. This enchanting moment marks the beginning of the holiday season. It kicks off a festive weekend dedicated to Saint Ambrose and the Immaculate Conception—two celebrations that hold special significance for Milan’s residents.
This year, as in 2023, the Milano Cortina 2026 Games Tree will symbolize Olympic and Paralympic values in Piazza Duomo. Standing 42 meters tall, this red spruce hails from Ponte di Legno in the Lombard Alps.
The tree has a unique story: it survived the devastating Vaia storm in 2018, which caused significant damage to the forests of Northern Italy. However, due to its instability and risk of falling, the spruce was cut down and transported to the heart of Milan. This action protects the environment and conveys a powerful message of hope and renewal.
